What a DTC (fault code) tells you is were you need to troubleshoot to figure out why the ECU set the DTC. Something a lot of folks don't understand about VCDS is that it does not magically tell you what part to replace. If you don't understand the technology of your car and diagnosis principles, than VCDS is just a fancy toy. What is important about VCDS is understanding what it is telling you. No idea where to even start, or if this cable ive got will work. I just want to check my glow plug condition, make sure everything is ok (what do I need to look for? timing, IQ, etc.) and to check my engine codes, and clear them if needed. is this just a sampler? even then, it seems kinda tough to use.
I downloaded the 'Release 15.7.3' which seems to be free. can someone translate that to normal english? hex, can, usb, hex+can, hex-cam, vag, iso, kii.
last thing I need to do is mess up or erase my whole ECM!! also, with all the abbreviations and code talk, its very difficult to manuever around the VCDS site. The program seems kind of confusing, and indimidating. I dont see it stickied so im not sure if there is a walkthrough for this or not. so thats what id like to get figured out. I believe its a knockoff, but from ive read, the cable is the simple/cheap part. I got a Vag Com cable from a buddy of mine to borrow.
